The funeral rites (Shraddha) of the father of Bangladesh’s renowned television personality, journalist, poet, and researcher Dr. Akhil Poddar have been performed.
Last Friday, the post-Shraddha luncheon and other related rites were completed, attended by distinguished individuals from various walks of life. Senior officials of the local administration, journalists from Kushtia district, teachers and officers of the Islamic University, and members of the saintly and spiritual community were present.
The event was organized by journalist Akhil Poddar’s elder brother, Dr. Asim Poddar. Expressing gratitude, he requested everyone to offer prayers and love for their late father, saying that the deceased had left behind countless admirers, many of whom attended the funeral ceremonies.
It is noteworthy that Amal Krishna Poddar, father of Dr. Akhil Poddar—former Chief News Editor of Ekushey Television and Publisher & Editor-in-Chief of the investigative magazine X-Files—passed away on 1 November. He died at his residence in Baraichara village of Khoksa upazila in Kushtia. He was 79.
A few days earlier, he had suffered a cardiac attack. After receiving prolonged treatment at the hospital, he chose to spend his remaining days at his village home. Following his demise, various organizations—including the Dhaka Reporters Unity, Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association, Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad, Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council, School of Humanism, and the Baul Sadhak Amd Ali Saiji Seba Sangha—expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family.
He is survived by two sons, two daughters, and innumerable admirers.
In a statement, Vaishnav Abdul Jalil, President of Baul Sadhak Amd Ali Saiji Seba Sangha, and its General Secretary Sadhu Mahajan Milon Ghosh said that Amal Krishna Poddar, father of Dr. Akhil Poddar, was a saintly and Sufi-minded humanist. Alongside fulfilling his family responsibilities, he dedicated his life to the betterment of society and its people. His contributions toward building a humanistic society will be remembered by the organization forever
